Consider bringing your outdoor feline indoors for the long, loud weekend, or provide a safe outdoor shelter for your feral friend. The fireworks bursting overhead can be loud, dangerous and definitely scary!
With a critical eye, look for potential hazards for your terrified cat. Shut any open windows to prevent a scaredy cat from jumping through it. Keep electrical cords or window blinds' cords from dangling and you reduce the risk of a fleeing furball getting caught up in the cords.
Make sure your kitty can easily access his safe places.
Consider using Feliway or a Rescue Remedy to begin calming your cat's nerves.
Be sensitive to his anxiety and be forgiving of any "accidents" he may have.
Double check that your cat is wearing his identification tags in case he slips out of the house in fright.
Happy (calm and safe) Fourth of July Weekend!
