Scrips support House of Dreams

 The Scrip Program produces blank looks and question marks for many people. For some reason, the Scrip Program comes across as being an overly-complicated concept when, really, it is pretty simple.

Buy gift cards through the House of Dreams and the kitties benefit.

When you use your gift cards, a percentage of your money will come back to House of Dreams at no cost to you, except for the time it takes you to order your gift cards!

 

For example, let's say you always shop at Pet Co and usually spend atleast $25 a month. You can pre-order gift cards by writing a check out for $25 to House of Dreams, writing "Scrip" on the memo line of the check and filling out the order from, indicating you want one $25 gift card for Petco.  Your order is processed (this happens on a monthly basis, so getting your order in by the due date will ensure that your card will be in your hands within 7-10 days.) You receive your card, you shop and House of Dreams is given 8% of your $25.

Low cost spay/neuter programs offered Feb/March

We have been very busy moving into our new shelter, and haven't had time to blog. Watch for photos of the kitties in their new home in the coming week. In the meantime, here is some important info re: low cost spay/neuter programs. 

These are not House of Dreams' programs, but we wanted to help spread the word.

Tom & Mom Cat Special!

Each year between Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day, in conjunction with Spay Day USA, several local non-profit animal welfare groups collaborate http://www.typepad.com/site/blogs/6a0120a5a125ef970c0120a54a3994970b/post/compose with local veterinarians to offer $10 male cat neuters and $20 female cat spays to low-income households. This year we are celebrating over 5,000 cats being spayed or neutered through this event!

How does the Tom & Mom Cat Special work?

All appointments fall between Valentines Day, February 14 and St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2010. Registration will open for those appointments on Jan 23rd.

If you live in the Portland area and wish to spay or neuter your
cat(s) you have two ways to contact us:

• Call our message phone at 503-234-7182. Please leave ONE MESSAGE with your name, contact information, including full address and phone number, and the age/sex of your cat(s).

Food Fight! Sweetpea Baking! Herbivore! and more!

This year's Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar silent auction is shaping up to be the best ever.

With prizes from Sweetpea Baking Company, Herbivore, Food Fight!, Grand Central Baking Company, author Kris Holechek, Dave's Killer Bread, Darcelle XV, Sunset Lanes, Tears of Joy Theatre, Western Pet Supply, The Audubon Society of Portland, and many, many, many others, there is sure to be something for everyone. 

Silent auction is Saturday, November 14th at the Russellville Grange Hall (12100 NE Prescott, Portland). It is held in conjunction with the Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar; and with Second Time Around, our annual sale of top-quality pre-owned holiday items.

Auction starts at 10am, and closes at 3pm (Bazaar and Second Time Around go until 4pm).

All proceeds from the auction and the Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar go directly to the care of the cats at House of Dreams.

House of Dreams must thank volunteer extraordinaires Mary Margaret Maitland, for once again organizing an amazing auction; and Second Time Around organizer Marion Berg, for putting tremendous time and energy year after year into this extremely popular part of the bazaar. We appreciate you both more than we can say!

We can't wait for the Pretty Kitty Silent Auction! So many good things to win!

Cars for cats

Get rid of your car/truck/motorcycle/boat, get a tax deduction, and help the kitties! What a deal!

Working in partnership with Volunteers of America, House of Dreams now takes vehicle donations.

Half the proceeds from the sale of the vehicle or its parts are donated to House of Dreams (the other half to VOA), and the person who gave the vehicle gets a tax deduction.

Go shopping--help kitties!

Do you shop at New Seasons? Buy music from iTunes or books from Powells? Ever eat at Pizzicato or McMenimans?

Then check out the House of Dreams scrip program! Scrip allows you to shop at your favorite restaurants and stores, and a portion of your purchases go directly to the cats at House of Dreams, at absoluely no cost to you!

How does it work? When you order scrip from participating retailers, HOD receives a portion of the proceeds and you receive certificates equal to the cash value of your order. Scrip costs you nothing--it is the participating businesses who make a contribution to the shelter.

Go to the scrip page of our website to learn more. Funds from the House of Dreams scrip program go to the shelter's medical fund, and are used to pay for medicines, diagnostic tests, and medical treatments needed by our cats.
