Food Fight needs baked goods! Whip up a batch of (vegan) cookies or cupcakes and bring them to Food Fight the day before the sale (April 22), or you can bring them the morning the day of the event.  The more baked goods, the more money Food Fight can give to Out to Pasture Sanctuary, Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary and Ananda Sanctuary. All items for sale must be free of animal product, including honey.

 

 

Eat a cupcake, help a kitty!

On Tuesday, September 14th, Cupcake Jones will be donating 5% of the day's sales to House of Dreams.

Cupcake Jones is located at 307 NW 10th Ave, Portland.

Hours are 10am to 8pm.

This year's Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar silent auction is shaping up to be the best ever.

With prizes from Sweetpea Baking Company, Herbivore, Food Fight!, Grand Central Baking Company, author Kris Holechek, Dave's Killer Bread, Darcelle XV, Sunset Lanes, Tears of Joy Theatre, Western Pet Supply, The Audubon Society of Portland, and many, many, many others, there is sure to be something for everyone. 

Silent auction is Saturday, November 14th at the Russellville Grange Hall (12100 NE Prescott, Portland). It is held in conjunction with the Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar; and with Second Time Around, our annual sale of top-quality pre-owned holiday items.

Auction starts at 10am, and closes at 3pm (Bazaar and Second Time Around go until 4pm).

All proceeds from the auction and the Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar go directly to the care of the cats at House of Dreams.

House of Dreams must thank volunteer extraordinaires Mary Margaret Maitland, for once again organizing an amazing auction; and Second Time Around organizer Marion Berg, for putting tremendous time and energy year after year into this extremely popular part of the bazaar. We appreciate you both more than we can say!

Today we paid a visit to the Knittn' Kitten, an eco-friendly second-hand shop for craft supplies.

What can you find at the Knittn' Kitten?

• Current cotton print fabrics: $1.50 to $2.00 a yard.  Vintage starts at $3.00 a yard
• Sewing thread starts at 15 cents
• Zippers: 45 cents and up
•  Notions like snaps, buckles, needles, elastic:  25 cents and up 
• Seam tape and binding starts at 65 cents a package
• Rick rack: starts at 65 cents a package
• Cotton embroidery floss: 15 cents
• Knitting needles, many types and sizes: $1.00 to $2.00 Bamboo starting at $2.00 to $5.00
• Crochet needles, any size: 50 cents to $2.00  Bamboo starting at $1.75 
• Assorted knitting yarns: 50 cents to $9.00 a skein   We carry Alpaca, bamboo, wools, acrylics, cottons, and many blends
• Lace, trims, ribbon, fringe and upholstery trims starts at 10 cents a yard
• Rubber stamps 50 cents and up
• Wool fabric 45" to 64" wide starts at $4.00 a yard
• All fabrics fit into price range of $1.50 to $6.00 a yard

We bought two pairs of aluminum knitting needles in the prettiest lilac color, at just $1.50 a set. What a bargain!

Shop owner Ethel has been a supporter of House of Dreams since she opened, and this year will be donating a gift basket to our Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar.

On top of all that, Knittn' Kitten is a "green" business--their inventory is made up pre-owed (but not used) fabrics, knitting needles, yarn, and craft notions that might otherwise end up in a landfill. Their low prices make sewing, knitting, beading, etc affordable even on a limited budget.
