strand necklaces are made by House of Dreams volunteer Mollie from donated beads.
100% of proceeds from their sale go to House of Dreams Cat Shelter.
"Several years ago, I inherited a box of beads from my mother-in-law. Though I loved them, I didn’t have a clue what to do with them. I put them away with a promise I would take a beading class… someday. Well, five years later, I still hadn’t learned the first thing about beading.
One day when I was fostering a sick cat, I saw the box sitting on the shelf. I’d always loved the knotted strands passed on to me by my grandmother. With the help of kitty on my lap, I grabbed some embroidery thread, a handful of beads, and began.
I found I loved beading this way, but soon the box was filled with necklaces instead of beads. If I sold them, I could give the money to House of Dreams cat shelter, but how was I going to replenish my stock? A beader friend had some extras she was happy to donate to my cause. That’s how Free Beads for Cats was born."
Mollie's necklaces are available at our various fundraising events, including the Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar (Saturday, Nov 10 at Tabor Space).
